H. Byron Hayles

Board Seat - President

H. Byron Hayles is retired from Degussa Chemical in Theodore where he served as a Safety Supervisor for 23 years.  Mr. Hayles is a long time resident of Spanish Fort Alabama and has served the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department since 1982.  Mr. Hayles served as the department’s Deputy Fire Chief until his retirement in 2014 and continues to serve as the Board President, a position he has held since 1996.

Sarah Beth Sherer

Board Seat 10 - Secretary

Sarah Beth Sherer is the Northwest Florida regional Network Operations Administrator for Cigna-HealthSpring.  Mrs. Sherer is very involved in local church activities.  She enjoys teaching Bible School classes at Spanish Fort Church of Christ and Inner City Church of Mobile.  She is a World Bible School and English Institute teacher who instructs international students during their summer travels to the U.S.  Mrs. Sherer is a member of the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Auxiliary Corps and has served as the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Board of Directors Secretary since 2014.

Bobby Fortenberry

Board Seat 8 - Vice President

Bobby Fortenberry is a current resident and active community member of Spanish Fort.  He serves on the Westminster Village Board of Trustees and as City Council Member for District 3.  Mr. Fortenberry has served on the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department Board of Directors since 2012 and is the current Board Vice-President.  He is a member of the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Board Finance Committee.

Troy Dyess

Board Seat 9 - Treasurer

Troy Dyess joined the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department in 1994. Serving as an officer within the Department since 1996, he served as Assistant Chief from 2001 until his promotion to Deputy Chief in 2014. Chief Dyess has served on the Board of Directors since 1997 and held the position of Board Treasurer since 1998. Chief Dyess serves as the Secretary of the Baldwin County Fire Chiefs’ Association. In addition to time in service at Spanish Fort Fire Rescue, Chief Dyess is currently a Deputy Coroner for Baldwin County and serves as the District One Director for the Alabama Coroners’ Association. Chief Dyess is also currently the Director of Operations for the American Autism & Rehabilitation Center in Daphne, Alabama. Chief Dyess has 16 years of experience in the finance industry where he spent the last eight of those years as the Chief Operating Officer of a locally owned bank.

Timothy R. Shaner

Board Seat 1

Timothy R. Shaner has been employed in the safety and security industry for 14 years.  He has been a licensed basic Emergency Medical Technician since 1998 and is a certified volunteer firefighter.  Mr. Shaner earned his Master of Science in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management from Eastern Kentucky University.  He has been a volunteer member of the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department since 2009 and joined the Board of Directors in 2015.

Lieutenant Col. Daniel H. Wilson

Board Seat 4

Lieutenant Col. Daniel H. Wilson (ret) served in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve for nine years.  He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from State University of Pennsylvania and then joined the Army to attend Officer Candidate School as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry.  He branch transferred to Armor and served 22 years as an armor officer.  During that period,  he commanded three armor companies, served as the Director of Instruction of the Military Academy of New Jersey and the Intelligence Officer (S2) of the First Brigade Fifth Armor Division.  Ltc. Wilson earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Lehigh University and a Master of Military Science Degree from the United States Army Armor School, Advanced Course and the Command and General Staff College.

He retired from the Army in 1991.  Ltc. Wilson remained active in a variety of civic organizations during his military career and briefly taught high school English.  He joined Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department as a volunteer firefighter in 2001 and became a Board of Director in 2002.  His present affiliations include Board of Directors [applicant] of the United States Army Officer Candidate School Alumni Association.  He holds a Phi Delta Kappa key from Lehigh University.  He is also a commercial pilot and a competitive distance runner.  He is a life patron member of the National Rifle Association and enjoys fishing and hunting as hobbies.

Craig Stanley

Board Seat 3

Craig Stanley is an IT and Global Business Development professional for VMware.  He has been involved in case management for the American Red Cross since 2014.  Mr. Stanley served as a volunteer firefighter for the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department in 2006 and 2007.  He returned to the department to serve on the Board of Directors in 2014.

Stuart LaGroue

Board Seat 6

Stuart LaGroue has been involved in Commercial Real Estate and specializing in self storage brokerage since 2004.  He is licensed in Alabama, Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana, and is also a partner in Storage South Management, LLC.  Mr. LaGroue served on the Board of the Alabama Self Storage Association (ALSSA) from 2007 – 2012.  In 2009, he served as President of ALSSA and for the two years prior to that he served as Treasurer.  Mr. LaGroue is a current resident and active community member of Spanish Fort.  He is a member of the Kiwanis Club and the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church’s Pastor Nominating Committee.  Mr. LaGroue is the Cub Master for Pack 177 and is a member of the Advisory Board for the Mobile Area Council Boy Scouts of America.  He has served on the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department Board of Directors since 2013.

Roger Few

Board Seat 11 - Fire Chief

Roger Few is a full-time employee of the department serving in the capacity of Fire Chief.  Chief Few has been with the Spanish Fort Fire Rescue Department since 1981 and was appointed to the position of Fire Chief in 1991.  Prior to becoming the full time Fire Chief in 2009, he worked over 22 years in the ambulance industry where he held the positions of paramedic, shift supervisor and operations manager. Chief Few is active in the Baldwin County Fire Chiefs’ Association having previously served multiple terms as Trustee, President, Secretary and currently Vice President.  Chief Few also serves as Baldwin County Director with the Southwest Alabama Fire Chiefs Association.
